Say goodbye to that record...Well well well.  It’s a sad time for FSU fans with the all the local talk of the recent smack down the NCAA layed on damn near the entire athletics program, and more importantly, the football problem.

My take:  Whatever.  This is probably exactly what the team needs to gently nudge Ole Bobby out the door.  Yeah, it sucks that the wins will vanish as if they never happened, but let’s be real.  As much as the fanbase values conference and national championships here, those 14 or so wins from 2006/7 didn’t matter anyway.  It’s not like anybody has to pull down any banners, return Heismans, or rewrite the record books.

FSU football will be better because of this. Write that down.

UF Basketball: Look who forgot they aren’t a legit NCAA tourney team!  Aight aight, good win today Gators, but really all this does is set us up for a 1st weekend early knockout much like ALL those teams from 2001-2005.  By the way, Dan Werner still sucks.  How do you get so many minutes?  I know you’re not earning them…

T.O. to…the Bills?:  Yep, okthen.  I feel like this can go only 2 ways:

  1. Owens balls out of control as the only legitimate weapon on the team, has a great year and leaves for a contender in 2010.  Or
  2. He realizes Trent Edwards sucks and tells us all about it through the media.

Official SwaggerTooth.com Launch Party:  Much like the reasoning behind swaggertooth.com, nobody really knows what’s going on with this.  The reason I waste your time in stating that is because yesterday I said I would give you an update.  There it is.  S Dot, meet us at the 4th.

  2. I for one was feeling slightly discouraged as a Seminole fan this past weekend. I really thought FSU did enough on their part by turning themselves into the NCAA and disciplining themselves for their “improper assistance” actions. I also felt like the NCAA took their sweet time deliberating on this to finally drop-kick the Noles in the teeth. I suppose the scholarships (I believe football is reduced from 85 to 82 the first year increasing back to +1 each year for the next 3 years) isn’t really THAT big of deal… perhaps we will just become even more selective and cut some of the loose ends.

Actually, to be honest–I’m not even that upset over vacating some of the wins (to a certain extent) too if that is necessary. I agree with El Meester…if the football program is forced to vacate 14 wins from our back-to-back 7-6 seasons, who really cares? Especially if that will bring the battle between Joe Pa vs. Bobby Bowden for all time wins to a much sooner conclusion, not forced by health or lack thereof. I once cared about this “prestigious” record for ole St. Bobby, but now I really don’t and I just want to see the program succeed again. It was nice while it lasted when Bowden held this record as the coach with the most wins in NCAA Division I-A history in 2003. I savored the flavor but now its gone and probably for good.

However, after some careful thought… even if Bobby did finish with more wins, it would have been because Joe Pa’s wavering health cutting the race short. Joe Paterno’s Lions by the way have been outperforming ole Bobby’s Seminoles since 2005 after their awful 3-9 season in 2003 and following 4-7 season. Since then, the (sissy) Nittany Lions have gone 11-1, 9-4, 9-4, and 11-2 winning 3 out 4 quality bowl games including a BCS Orange Bowl victory over the Seminoles in 2005. Finally, here’s the deal breaker for me why Joe Pa should go down with this record: all 383 of his wins (as well as 127 losses and 3 ties) belong to Penn State, whereas Bobby Bowden shares 73 of his now “386″ wins with West Virginia and Howard College! Now, I can accept the 42 wins at WVU but the 31 wins, albeit small, with a 1-AA college… really? Really? REALLY? I personally would prefer this monumental accomplishment to be as fantasy world and fairytale-like as possible going to the man that did it all in ONE place and means even more to their university and town.

Joe Pa puts on for his city in Happy Valley… Bobby put Tallahassee on the map in college football, absolutely — I don’t mean to sound blasphemous here fellow Seminoles. Let’s just put this senile mess behind us and begin to move forward with the new regime of Jimbo Fisher and Rick Trickett to see what these boys can really do… next step is replacing Mickey Andrews as Defense Coordinator with one of Jimbo’s boys to complete assuming full responsibility for the program–sorry about those 4 years of probation, public reprimand & censure, scholarship reductions and overall media stank that you’ve inherited though. Welcome to FSU, formerly Free Shoes University.

To end this comment on a much more positive note though, congratulations to the FSU men’s basketball team! The Seminoles protected their home court this past Saturday against Virginia Tech beating them 63-53 and staying ranked at #24 before entering the ACC tournament next weekend with a first-round bye for finishing in the top 4 of the ACC, edging out Clemson. Hopefully we will have good things to look forward to this post-season with the Seminoles being invited to the big dance for the first time in 12 years. I am also excited to see if Leonard Hamilton can keep this young team together and focused while adding quality new classes to the mix.

    Go Noles!

  3. I am sorry to report that I missed the Official SwaggerTooth.com Launch Party last night. I very much wanted to be apart of this event at the beloved 4th Quarter but due to locational differences and Florida’s lack of a bullet train, I was unable to attend. I promise that I will be apart of future SwaggerTooth.com events as well as other BrainTrust sponsored festivities.

    Do it GODZILLA big, errrbody!
