This morning, Tallahassee has had a couple bomb scares.  One was at the Tallahassee Regional Airport, where a set of hair clippers and a bottle of cologne was mistaken for a grenade.  Okie dokie.  At least they’re being proactive, but you can’t help but wonder:  if these checkers can’t tell what isn’t a bomb, can we trust them to tell what is a bomb?  Also this morning, the FBI has been investigating a home out near the Golden Eagle area of northeast Tallahassee.  Nobody is currently saying what the investigation is about, but we do know the Big Bend Bomb Squad was involved.  Sounds sketchy.

Yesterday, SwaggerTooth distinguished member SB requested that we give her some Tom Brady news.  I’m skeptical as to exactly why, given Tom Brady’s celebrity status, but we’ll play.  So here you go SB. The New England Patriots have a big game against division rival New York Jets this Sunday.  Jets rookie head coach Rex Ryan came out after their week 1 victory over the Houston Texans and said that the Jets will be treating this week’s match-up against the Patriots as if it was the Super Bowl.  There has been a lot of trash talking coming from the Jets, and the Patriots are not biting.  They have basically taken the (correct) stance of  “Calm down, it’s only week 2, guys.”

In college football, we have a nice matchup tonight:  #14 Georgia Tech @ #20 Miami.  This is a big game for both schools, as they both are trying to validate their statuses on the national scene.  Last year, GT put down a pretty nice 41-23 beatdown on Miami that really wasn’t even as close as the final score indicated.  The 472 rushing yards Miami gave up was the most allowed by any Miami defense in the past 30 years and GT only attempted to pass the ball 6 times the entire game.  Miami has had the entire offseason to think about that game, so we’ll see if they are more prepared for Tech’s tricky triple option offense this year.

Technology

I read about this pretty cool and nerdy experiment today.  A couple of MIT students with a very low budget figured out how to take “near-outer-space” pictures by launching a cheap point-and-shoot camera into the atmosphere via weather balloon.  All for the low price of $148.  That’s tight.  They hacked the camera in a way that it would snap a picture every 5 seconds starting at the time of launch.  Here is a time lapse of the images they got in return:

Yesterday, Dave Matthews Band leaked the cover art for the upcoming new album, “Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King”.  The album is to be released June 2nd.   The drawing, by Dave Matthews himself, is a juxtaposition of Mardi Gras and a New Orleans-style jazz funeral and is also a tribute to the late saxophonist and founding DMB member Leroi Moore.

The first single “Funny the Way It Is” is available for free download all week right here.

The NBA playoffs are coming up very, very soon.  We’re not giving you a full preview today, but we’re promising a new poll and more analysis from all members of the BrainTrust tomorrow.  Stay tuned.

The audio & video quality actually came out pretty decent with this little Creative Vado HD pocket video camera.  Fair warning though, the picture does get a little bit shaky at times and you can hear the crowd more than the band in a few parts but overall it is quite watchable and has the option for HD. I was able to record 7 full songs: The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room, Jenny, Motha’uckas, Business Time, Albi, Think About It, and The Humans Are Dead. Sorry I missed out on Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor — that one was fanstastic.

Hopefully I can borrow this sweet little toy again from my co-worker for some other SwaggerToothVideo contributions. I will let everyone know if the price drops on this sucker for a quick slickdeal of the day. Regardless, I think it is safe to say that you can expect some more SwaggerTooth videos to come in the future. This story is built for glory: Twenty-eight-year old man from Newark, Ohio wrecked a bar stool powered by a deconstructed lawn mower. He was hospitalized with minor injuries. He told authorities that he had consumed 15 beers and that his motorized bar stool can go up to 38 mph. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. [MSNBC has video footage of the interview in case you were wondering what this dude looks like too.]

Troopers nab son, then dad on DWI charges after the father, a county coroner, had been called to pick up son’s car. You know what they say… Like Father, Like Son. I be Stuntin’ Like My Daddy!

BREAKING NEWS: This just in… Twitter is gay huge. Even though I HATE to talk about Twitter, I guess it has officially blown up to Godzilla BIG proportions… and for that I am sad. Here are a couple of Twitter-related stories in the news that are semi-entertaining.

Jennifer Aniston ended relationship with John Mayer because of his Twitter ‘obsession.’ People claiming to be friends of the actress have told Star magazine that she finished the affair after discovering Mayer, 31, spent hours on the networking website, despite telling her he was too busy to get in touch with her. Mayer apparently did not read the 10 tips on being a good Twitterer — #1 could have saved him some trouble.

Villanueva tweets before Bucks game. “In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt,” Villanueva wrote during a game against Boston. “We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.” Coach Skiles to Villanueva: No halftime tweets. Did you really have to be told this?

However, Villanueva did indeed “step up” and his team won the game. This kind of tight-assness from Coach Skiles is why he was fired in Chicago. I like Alvin Gentry’s approach to Shaq’s twittering during halftime much more: “If he gets 25 [points] and 11 [rebounds], he can do anything he wants,” Gentry said. “He can Twitter, he can Facebook, he can — whatever the hell the other one is, MySpace … he gets 25 and 11, he can do just about anything he wants.”
